Insurance Body Shop or Your Own Body Shop?
Today we ask the question of which is the better choice to make? Should you get repair help from a body shop directed by your insurance or should you take your vehicle to an independently owned certified body shop? We recommend that you seek out an independently owned certified body shop because it works for the best interest of the consumer. And as you may have guessed, insurance body shops seek to serve their own best interests and will cut corners on the repair of your vehicle.
Often times, an insurance company will ask you to use an “approved body shop”. Despite the strong suggestion from the insurance company you are allowed to use any auto body shop of your choosing. If you are unsure, ask your local body shop for proof of their work. A good body shop will always have work to show even on slow days.
After the Accident
The easiest choice is to go with what your insurance recommends but you can expect to receive sub-par repairs. It may take a little more searching on google but certainly you will find a certified body shop who has your best interest in mind to deliver quality results because it is their bread and butter.
Research
Do your homework before choosing a repair shop to ensure that it is reputable. You can get a good sense of the shop’s work by reading reviews online. Personal recommendations are also an excellent way to locate the best stores.
In Summary
Your insurer’s recommended mechanic isn’t always the best option for repairs.
Body shops that are recommended by insurance companies typically complete repairs quickly, but the quality of the repairs may be inferior to that of other shops.
If you already have a collision center who is familiar with your vehicle, they are probably your best option.
Make sure the repair shop is reputable before agreeing to repairs.
